Kevin is back into surfing! We drove down to San Clemente to meet up with his old surfing buddy, Steve Banks. I took my official post on the beach watching the kids. When Kevin was done surfing, he took Hannah out.

When he put her on his back and started to paddle out, I got a bit nervous. I knew he was going to catch a wave with her.

I wish I could have captured their faces better, I wish I could record the sound of her giggling and screaming as they came in. It is a memory I will never forget. Hannah is hooked.

Gavin didn't want to miss out on the fun. He's not big enough to do what Hannah did, but he was satisfied laying on the board and letting the water hit him in the face. I am proud of my "Rachel Quality" picture.

Steve and his wife have a tandem board and love to
tandem surf. They said Kevin and I could try and they would watch the kids. I was a bit nervous going into the water as always, but even more so since
Shark Week just ended.
San Onofre's beach is covered with rocks, on my way out I sliced my toe. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got on the tandem board with Kevin and he saw my bloody big toe. He said, "Uhh, your toe is pretty bloddy... why don't you take it out of the water?"
Ok, that just totally freaked me out... then Steve's friend came by and said, "Chum in the water?" I thought he was referring to the fact it was my first time tandem surfing. No, he was referring to
chum, the stuff you throw in the water to attract a shark!!!!
Kevin and I did catch one wave, it was amazing... I can't wait to go again. All the things I don't like about surfing aren't a concern on a tandem board. I totally trust Kevin and his surfing ability, he knows how to do everything and I can just mooch a ride off of him. I can't wait to go again.
I had to walk back to the beach in the water, Kevin said, "walk lightly!" I was totally freaked out about attracting a
shark.
I made it! The
life guard bandaged my toe up.
Steve and Kevin brought in the giant pink tandem board.

When we got home Kevin cleaned my toe and got it to stop bleeding. He bandaged it up nicely as well. I was shocked that he could handle the sight of my blood, well, any blood for that matter. From passing out at the sight of blood, to touching my bloody toe, Kevin has come a long way.
